Operation Safe Travel was a nationwide investigation into airport and air transportation safety. The investigations, which were conducted by various investigative entities nationwide for their respective areas, examined all persons employed at local airports who had applied for secure area access badges to determine if they made false statements on their security badge applications.

A series of patches were made for the New York airports.  Safe Travel I was made for investigations at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.  Safe Travel II was made for the investigation at Greater Rochester International Airport and Safe Travel III was made for the investigation at Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
